4" Prone Zlichovaspis Trilobite - Orange Eye Preservation!
This is an exceptional, 4" long specimen of Zlichovaspis rugosa from the Lhandar Formation near Atchana, Morocco. Beautifully preserved in a prone position, this impressive trilobite features exquisite eye facet preservation in striking orange calcite, a distinctive feature occasionally encountered in specimens from this locality.
Expert preparation and careful undercutting have left the trilobite standing prominently in high relief against its natural limestone matrix, creating a dramatic, three-dimensional display. With only approximately 1% shell restoration, this is a superb, collector-grade example of this remarkable species.

About Trilobites
Trilobites were a very diverse group of extinct marine arthropods. They first appeared in the fossil record in the Early Cambrian (521 million years ago) and went extinct during the Permian mass extinction (250 million years ago). They were one of the most successful of the early animals on our planet: over 25,000 species have been described, filling nearly every evolutionary niche. Due in large part to their hard exoskeletons (shells), they left an excellent fossil record.
