2.45" Flying Hollardops Trilobite With Gerastos - Multi-Toned Shell

This is a spectacular, 2.45" long Hollardops trilobite from Morocco, exhibiting exceptional preservation, exquisite preparation, and striking multi-toned shell coloration. Its beautifully detailed exoskeleton displays a captivating contrast of deep chocolate-brown and charcoal-black hues, accented by warm golden-brown and amber tones across the cephalon.

Of particular note are the remarkably preserved compound eyes, featuring crisp, individually defined facets with a distinctive golden-orange coloration occasionally seen in trilobites from this locality.

Nearly all of the surrounding limestone has been meticulously removed, leaving the trilobite dramatically elevated above its natural rock matrix in an impressive three-dimensional display. A naturally associated Gerastos trilobite adds to this extraordinary presentation.

An exceptional collector-grade specimen with remarkable detail, stunning coloration, and virtually no restoration—less than 1%!

About Trilobites

Trilobites were a very diverse group of extinct marine arthropods. They first appeared in the fossil record in the Early Cambrian (521 million years ago) and went extinct during the Permian mass extinction (250 million years ago). They were one of the most successful of the early animals on our planet: over 25,000 species have been described, filling nearly every evolutionary niche. Due in large part to their hard exoskeletons (shells), they left an excellent fossil record.
