3.5" Zlichovaspis Trilobite With Reedops - Orange Eye Facets!

This is an extraordinary, 3.5" long Zlichovaspis rugosa trilobite from the Lhandar Formation near Atchana, Morocco. This spectacular specimen features remarkably detailed preservation, including striking, golden-orange eyes with beautifully preserved individual facets—a distinctive and highly sought-after feature occasionally found in trilobites from this locality.

The trilobite has been masterfully prepared, with nearly all of the surrounding limestone meticulously removed, leaving its elaborate spines and intricately sculpted exoskeleton exposed in breathtaking three-dimensional detail. The specimen appears to rise dramatically above its natural limestone base, creating an exceptionally striking, almost sculptural display.

Adding to its appeal is a naturally associated, 2.8" long Reedops trilobite, beautifully preserved alongside the larger specimen. This remarkable association of two different trilobite species makes for a particularly impressive and visually captivating fossil display.

Preservation is exceptional, with only approximately 2–3% shell restoration along repaired cracks. Between its brilliant orange eye facets, dramatic freestanding preparation, intricate preservation, and naturally associated second trilobite, this is a truly outstanding collector-grade specimen!

About Trilobites

Trilobites were a very diverse group of extinct marine arthropods. They first appeared in the fossil record in the Early Cambrian (521 million years ago) and went extinct during the Permian mass extinction (250 million years ago). They were one of the most successful of the early animals on our planet: over 25,000 species have been described, filling nearly every evolutionary niche. Due in large part to their hard exoskeletons (shells), they left an excellent fossil record.
